Augustus’ Empire

The first ruler of Rome, Augustus governed from 31 BC until his death in 14BC. Augustus’ reign marked the beginning of the Pax Romana – the Roman Peace – where there was very little military conflicts. His desire to create a glorious Rome and to mark his impact on the city, he began a series of construction projects including the Mausoleum of Augustus, Obelisk of Montecitorio and the Ara Pacis turning Rome from a city of brick to a city of marble.
